What fees does this calculator include?

Etsy charges sellers in four main ways. Here's exactly what each one is and how it's calculated.

Transaction Fee, 6.5%

Charged on the total sale price including any shipping amount you collect. This fee was raised from 5% to 6.5% in April 2022 and applies to every single sale.

Listing Renewal, $0.20/sale

Every time an item sells, the listing renews at $0.20. For high-volume sellers, these small fees accumulate to hundreds of dollars per year.

Payment Processing, ~3% + $0.25

If you use Etsy Payments (mandatory in most countries), Etsy charges approximately 3% of the sale plus $0.25 per transaction for card processing.

Offsite Ads, up to 15%*

Not included in this calculator. Sellers over $10,000/year are auto-enrolled and charged 12% on referred sales. Under that threshold it is optional but enabled by default.

* Offsite ad fees are not included in the calculator totals. Your real costs may be higher if offsite ads are enabled.

Etsy fees, common questions

Everything sellers ask about how Etsy charges work.

What is Etsy's transaction fee?

Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the total sale price, including any shipping charges you set. This fee was increased from 5% to 6.5% in April 2022.

How much does Etsy charge for listings?

Etsy charges $0.20 per listing when you list an item, and a further $0.20 renewal fee each time an item sells (or when a multi-quantity listing renews). Listings also automatically renew every 4 months at $0.20 each.

What is Etsy's payment processing fee?

If you use Etsy Payments (required in most countries), Etsy charges approximately 3% + $0.25 per transaction. Rates vary slightly by country.

Are Etsy offsite ad fees included in this calculator?

This calculator covers the core Etsy fees: transaction fees (6.5%), listing renewal fees ($0.20/sale), and payment processing (~3% + $0.25). Offsite ad fees (12–15% on referred sales) are separate and optional for sellers below $10,000/year. If you have offsite ads enabled, your real total will be higher.

How does Etsy's fee structure compare to running my own store?

On your own Shopify or WooCommerce store, typical payment processing is around 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, with no listing fees, no transaction fees, and no offsite ad fees. You also own your customer data, email list, and search rankings. The total cost saving grows significantly at scale.

Is it worth leaving Etsy and building my own website?

For sellers with 100+ sales and $1,000+ monthly revenue, the math often favours owning your own store within 12–18 months. The real advantage isn't just fee savings, it's owning your customer list, controlling your SEO, and building a business asset that Etsy cannot suspend.

What is the Etsy Dependency Score?

The Etsy Dependency Score is our estimate of how exposed your business is to Etsy's platform risk. A high score means a large portion of your income and customer relationships are controlled by Etsy, meaning algorithm changes, fee increases, or account suspension could significantly harm your business.

Does Etsy charge VAT or sales tax on top of fees?

In some countries, Etsy adds VAT to seller fees. In the UK, for example, Etsy adds 20% VAT to all fees. This calculator uses the base USD fee rates, if you're in a VAT-applicable country, your actual fees will be higher.
